Non Profits & Charities - Campaign

By placing an order through a portion of the sales will come back to Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake! Pictured here is Mr. Coconut - a gorgeous Great Pyrenees awaiting his forever family and Hoping to go Home for Christmas! Animal Rescue is very expensive and donations for operational costs have decreased in 2016 yet the numbers of homeless dogs and cats in our area needing our help has not decreased. We are a Non Profit, 501(c)3 No Kill Animal Rescue organization. Last year, 803 dogs and cats were saved, we are on track to save even more this year. The purpose of Second Chance Pet Rescue of Grand Lake is to provide safe refuge, nutrition, and veterinary care for homeless, abused, and neglected animals, to promote and assist with population control of unwanted dogs and cats, and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. Each dog/cat that comes through our doors averages $130 for vaccinations, flea/tick, spay/neuter and microchipping, the cost is even more if that dog has heart worms (another $400 to $500) or mange ($400 per dog) or has another disease or is suffering with broken bone, etc. We average a total cost of $350 for every rescued dog and cat that passes through our doors in a year's time considering their ongoing care/feeding/housing until they are adopted or transported. The daily cost for a dog or cat ranges between $4 to $6 per day per animal with 100 to 150 animals onsite, we are usually at capacity at any given time. We strive to keep our adoption rates low to encourage adoption of a rescue animal (go to and Adoption Procedure for more information). We offer low cost and no cost (for those who qualify) spay/neuter services and low cost vaccination services. Transporting dogs to MN has allowed us to save All the dogs at the Grove City Animal Shelter whereas four short years ago more than 700 dogs/cats were euthanized. Transporting is expensive and adds another $125 per dog once additional veterinary care, examinations and paperwork to prepare to transport has been performed. Our Second Chance Thrift Shop is the sustaining force for our Rescue Shelter but it is not enough - we hold several fundraisers throughout the year to help supplement our ever increasing costs. We Believe that all of the hard work is worth it and that by saving these precious lives, they help Save us with their unconditional love. Thank You for your participation and for Believing in Second Chances!
