Who are The Southwest Slammers ?
We are a blind baseball team based in Tucson Arizona. Our Facebook page is Southwest Slammers Beepbaseball. We have been in existence since 2008, and are a member of the National Beep Baseball Association. We have competed at the national level since 2009. and placed 9th. in the world in 2014 and again in 2015.
What We Do ?
Our primary goal is to promote independence, self-confidence, and self-reliance for people with visual impairments through athletics. We run weekly practices, travel to participate in national and international tournaments, and continually promote the idea of independence for people who are blind or visually-impaired. in addition to our regular team activities, we run clinics and demonstrations for the blind and visually-impaired youth groups here in southern Arizona.
Why Support Us ?
Our organization is totally supported by our own members and by the generosity of organizations like the Lions Clubs. Sport and recreations are often overlooked when it comes to providing services for the people who are blind or visually-impaired. the focus is often narrowed to survival skills. While this is important, we believe that everyone deserves to have the JOY of normal recreational activity, especially one that promotes physical fitness and team spirit. We provide an essential service, to our team members, volunteers, and to the people we meet in the course of our demonstrations and clinics.
What WE NEED !!!
Our typical yearly budget is around $10,000.00 and is completely filled by fund-raising. We would be HONORED to have you as one of our supporters.
