LifeSavers is a peer-support, suicide and crisis prevention training program which trains high school students to be caring listeners in their interactions with their peers. LifeSavers are trained in active listening skills, confidentiality, valuing diversity, recognizing signs of suicide, depression, chemical dependency, etc., safely helping friends and peers who are struggling, how to seek adult help, and making healthy lifestyle choices free of illegal and harmful substances. Trainees and current LifeSavers students (trained as group leaders) attend an annual 3-day training retreat. Schwan's fundraising is instrumental in funding this incredible experience! LifeSavers also meet regularly throughout the school year, are involved in various community service activities, and are also working "behind the scenes" in their supportive relationships with friends and peers.
